Brain Injury Program
Every year approximately 1.4 million Americans sustain a traumatic brain injury (TBI), and it is conservatively estimated that 3.17 million American civilians are living with a permanent TBI-related disability. Additionally there are 4.7 million Americans who are affected by stroke each year. In 1988 Black Hills Works started The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Center (TBI RC) to specifically work with people with this disability.
The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Center (TBIRC) is the only brain injury rehabilitation facility of its kind in the state of South Dakota. It provides community-based service at affordable prices with an experienced professional staff. The supports including: cognitive therapy, counseling (both individual and group), community living training, employment training and placement, as well as individualized case management. Basically, TBI RC works with people in all areas of their lives because it is known that a brain injury does not just affect a person's thinking. It impacts all areas of their lives. The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Center (TBI RC) bridges the gap between traditional rehabilitative therapy and a successful return to community living.
