A-Team Black Hills

A-Team Black Hills

People supported at Black Hills Works are encouraged to speak for themselves regarding the issues affecting their lives, but as we all know it takes a village.  Your story matters just as much as theirs and that is why we are asking you to participate.  We need dedicated advocates, including self-advocates, family and support systems....there is Power in Numbers!

What is the A-Team?

In October of 2011, Opportunities, Inc. located in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin www.oppinc.com, invited families to unite and establish a network of support to ensure that individuals with disabilities have a full array of services to choose from in maximizing independence and employment. The initiative is called the A-TEAM and since then has expanded to many chapters around the state of Wisconsin. The growing movement has now expanded nationally as more families and advocates are empowered to VOICE their CHOICE!

MISSION: To ignite the passion and energy of persons with diverse abilities and their families to advocate in a grassroots efforts; create awareness in the community and advise others to ensure service options and opportunities to meet people's needs.

The 3-A Approach:

ADVISEMENT: Grow knowledge/guide outcomes.

  • Grow to be a credible adviser and mentor for others.
  • Guide others in what is best for self-advocates and their loved ones.

AWARENESS: Share your story.

  • Tell your story to expand understanding of those with diverse abilities throughout the community.

ADVOCATE:  Promote your rights.

  • Speak to others about what is important to you.
  • Participate in various activities to make your voice heard.
